It abides alone, beyond the reach of warmth and happiness. It slips silently through the eons, waiting… watching… waiting. Suddenly, the darkness cuts through the light, splitting time in half, a perfect mirror image forward and back. Look at the center of that split and you will see a miracle: your true face, your original face.
This sculpture of black walnut cleaved itself from the side of “Benediction of Soul” while I was shaping that piece. It was then carved and burned, and trimmed with over 10,000 nails and nine coats of tung oil. It stands atop a black granite base on western red cedar lumber.
